MjrProductions Quick Pick!

Hey Everyone! Those of you who have been reading (and I thank you for sticking with me) know that this time of year is extremely busy for me. But, that doesn't mean there aren't any shirts to feature!! So, in an extra effort to get 'em out on time, I'm going to start doing some more multi-design features and quick picks...

... since MjrProductions is up next in the feature queue, I thought I'd talk about the rest of his really great vintage advertisement designs (you may remember I posted the first one a few months ago here). I loved the first design so much that I decided to feature some of the other vintage ads he's got:

MacNiven & Cameron
Vintage ad from the 1890's. Not sure what they're selling, but it's "Sold Everywhere" and a wise old owl watches over the commerce atop his neat, 4-way street sign (one of the signs does say "pens"). I'll bug Mjr about getting a better image of this design.

"REX" Tailor-Made Shirt
I think this is probably my favorite of the 3 (although, it could have something to do with the fact that I put it on my favorite style shirt...). It's a vintage ad from the 1890's and reads, "Proper Fit Guaranteed" & "Special Orders in Four Days". Lol, sounds like Spreadshirt. Again, need to bug Mjr for a better picture of the design because I really would like to know what the guy is putting up to his face - a pipe perhaps?

Ransomes Lawn Mowers
"Ransomes Lawn Mowers, the Best in the World!" This is a vintage ad from 1910. Mjr says that it was a "firm in my home town of Ipswich, UK". That's one hell of a funky looking lawn mower. They advertise both hand AND motor powered mowers.

So, if you're into vintage advertising, one of these shirts might be for you! Check them all out in our featured guest designs section at the Insan Art Store or go ahead and make your own shirt with our design your own t-shirt shop (to find these designs, please choose "grabbed designs" under the menu where it says "top graphics").

Right Hand by Van Tribe

Last week Jay (1/one) of Van Tribe Shirts announced to the t-shirt community that his design, Right Hand, was currently being sold in 725 Spreadshirt shops in the US and Canada! Better make that at least 726 since I just picked it up for this feature.

That is a pretty huge amount! Personally, I have designs being sold in 11 other shops at the moment - I'm getting there...

The Right Hand design is another wonderful example of a simple yet stunning design, without a single bit of flashiness. It fits many contexts or can stand on it's own and it is rather friendly and non-abrasive - I'm sure that's why it's been picked up by so many shops!

Steedman's Powders by mjrproductions

Well, until I get some new designer submissions, we get to start all over again from the beginning, which is great since there are lots of other designs from these folks that deserve a feature!

One of those designs would be a newer one from "mjrproductions" called Steedman's Powders - it's one of a series of antique ad designs mjr added recently.

I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong mjr) that this is a spoof of an antique medicine ad from Woolworth's in the 1890's. Either way, very nice design idea - I love the fact that not only does it look vintage, but it is actually based on a real vintage design. Nouveau vintage. Hehe!

Rocky Giraffe by CardVibes

While I'm on a roll with simple designs, let me introduce Rocky Giraffe by Cardvibes...

Rocky Giraffe is a really nice single color design with lots of character! Again, it amazes me how much one can get away with using one color, and having seen the multi-color version of the design, I think Cardvibes did a wonderful job simplifying the original into a vector graphic.

This design would be great for adults and kids. It certainly lends itself very well to children's gear but would also be a nice and playful, vintage-style design for the ladies and gents.

Happy Rainbow Cloud by gladditudes

Happy Rainbow Cloud by gladditudes.

There are two reasons I love this design - first, it's got such a nice "retro" feel, even though I'm not sure what decade I'd place it in (I think about it it could work as '70s, '80s and probably the '90s too...). Second, the simplicity of the design is striking - it's the kind of design that I personally have a hard time coming up with since I tend to be too detail oriented!

This is also a great example of combining several popular "symbols" (rainbow, cloud, smiley face) into a single, original and very wearable (and cute!) design.

Thrift Chic from Insan Art

(featured at left is my new "Thrift Store Chic" design on the melange red Junior's Ringer T
-
available from the Insan Art Store @ Spreadshirt)

One of my original designs (from Insan Art - www.insanart.com), "Thrift Store Chic" is the first of two new thrift shopping related designs I've been working on. It is quite fitting for me, I was raised on used apparel and weekend trips to the Salvation Army thrift store (rather than the lame old mall).

Get my "Thrift Store Chic" design on a variety of Men's and Women's products at both the Insan Art Stores:

the Insan Art Store @ Spreadshirt
&
the Insan Art Store @ Cafepress

As usual, I recommend the Spreadshirt store since there is a better variety of product styles & colors. Enjoy!
